About our opportunity:The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Equity & Inclusion Consultant in the Equity & Inclusion Department. The Equity & Inclusion Department leads the City's efforts to advance racial and social equity by providing training, guidance, and resources to City staff, elected officials, and community partners. This position plays a key role in shaping inclusive policies, fostering engagement, and supporting the City's Equity Action Plan.
What you’ll be doing:- Develop, implement, and evaluate racial equity trainings for City staff, board and commission members, and City Council members.
- Create and facilitate training activities and curriculum tailored to various levels of knowledge and learning styles.
- Coordinate and lead Interdepartmental Action Teams, tracking progress on the City's Equity Action Plan.
- Develop and support a team of Equity Trainers by providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Provide consultation and technical assistance to City departments on equity-focused projects, policies, and programs.
- Analyze data, recommend policy changes, and develop new tools to improve equity within City operations.
- Serve on regional committees and collaborate with external organizations to advance racial equity.
- Host educational programs, including podcasts and workshops, to deepen community engagement in equity initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records, training evaluations, and reports to assess the impact of equity programs.
- Communicate effectively with City officials, staff, and community stakeholders to foster inclusive environments.

About you:We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Adult Education, Project Management, or a related field
- Five years of experience developing and implementing training programs and work groups, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Ability to develop and facilitate racial equity training for diverse audiences
- Strong analytical skills for assessing policies, programs, and data with an equity lens
- Experience leading and mentoring teams in a professional setting
Preferred Skills & Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging stakeholders at all levels
- Experience in policy development and organizational change strategies
- Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires the ability to work in an office setting with standard equipment use. Some standing and public speaking are required.
