This position applies professional engineering knowledge and skills to manage and administer civil/municipal engineering projects involving the design, construction oversight, and field inspection of public works projects. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Public Works Manager – Engineering.
Job Description
• Manage and administer the design and field oversight of public works projects.
• Coordinate projects with contractors, citizens, regulatory agencies, developers, and others.
• Prepare engineering plans and contracts.
• Assist in the management of the City’s National Floodplain Insurance Program and the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Permit Program.
• Provide exceptional customer service to the public and to other City employees.
• Answer inquiries on planning, floodplain elevation, development, construction, etc.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction engineering.
• Preferred two years of civil engineering experience, construction inspection experience is a plus.
• Project management skills to organize and coordinate projects.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, laws, ordinances, statues, and regulatory requirements for Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Kane County Department of Transportation (KDOT), Motor Fuel Tax (MFT), and Illinois Environmental Protection agency (IEPA) projects.
• Effective verbal and written communication for report writing and interpreting and analysis of technical and statistical information.
• Proficiency with software programs such as MS Office suite, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Microstation CADD or Autocad.
• IDOT Documentation certified or the receipt within 18 months of hire.
• Engineering Intern license (EIT) preferred or ability to obtain within two years of hire.
• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• If selected, successful completion of a background check, physical, functional capacity evaluation and drug screen will be required.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range is $76,000 - $106,000 with starting pay commensurate with experience.
