PAY AND BENEFITS
Annual Pay Range: $64,801.22 - $81,556.88
Hourly Pay Range: $31.154435 - $39.210038
Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented, and detail and quality focused Engineering Technician 2 to join our Transportation Maintenance team. If selected for this position, you will be responsible for providing technical support and inspection services for ongoing Transportation Maintenance projects. Your main focus in this position will be to inspect projects related to the construction or improvement of grading, utilities, surfacing, paving, drainage installations, bridges and other structures for adherence to established standards and specifications. You will also perform moderately complex engineering assignments, prepare reports and presentations to communicate program activities and goals, and an opportunity to assist in the design and preparation of simple plans and specifications for public works projects.
The Transportation Maintenance Division within the Department of Transportation and Development is responsible for maintenance of road surfaces, shoulders and ditches, culvert and storm water drainage, bridge maintenance, ferry maintenance, striping, sign work, and road patching for roughly 1,400 miles of county roads.
Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience with roadway construction. For this position, roadway construction experience may include work similar to the following:
• Reading and interpreting civil, utility, or site development construction plans
• Performing plan review and/or inspections for road construction, site development, or elements in the right-of-way
• Applying and enforcing permit conditions related to work in a road or right-of-way
• Experience working with various road construction materials, equipment, and methods
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in generating and maintaining accurate reports and records
• Experience providing excellent customer service to the public as well as to other external and internal stakeholders within various levels of organization
• Experience interacting with contractors and/or the public
Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a road operations, engineering, utility, or closely related position
• Experience inspecting or working on road construction or maintenance
• Current ODOT General Inspection Certification
• Current ACP or HMAC Inspection Certification
• Knowledge of erosion control and stormwater systems
• Experience using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

• Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. TYPICAL TASKS
Typical tasks include, but are not limited to:
• Inspects construction or improvement of grading, utilities, surfacing, paving, drainage installations, bridges and other structures for adherence to established standards and specifications; conducts and supervises field and laboratory tests and analysis of construction materials; accepts or rejects inspected materials on the basis of test results; assists in preparing and adjusting construction cost estimates; prepares cost reports on completed construction projects; prepares periodic estimates of work done as a basis of payment to contractors; performs advanced computations to determine excavation quantities and material requirements for complex design projects; conducts statistical studies and research projects as needed.
• Prepares reports and presentations, including graphics, maps, and technical drawings to describe project or program goals and activities using manual or computer tools.
• Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer, participates in the design and preparation of simple plans and specifications for public works projects.
• Perform moderately complex technical engineering assignments and may occasionally provide oversight to contract inspectors on temporary, well-defined projects
WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties require frequent standing, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, digging, balancing, fine motor control, and the ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds, push 50 pounds, and pull 70 pounds. Duties also involve frequent exposure to loud noises, vibration, slippery and/or uneven surfaces, exhaust fumes and dust, oil and chemicals, traffic hazards, and adverse weather conditions.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position is included in the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.
This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
