-Position: Middle School English Learner Teacher
As a Middle School English Learner Teacher at Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the academic and linguistic development of our diverse student population. Responsibilities include:
-Implementing effective English Language Development (ELD) curriculum and designing instruction that meets the unique needs of English Learner (EL) students.
-Providing differentiated support and scaffolding to help EL students access grade-level content across various subject areas.
-Collaborating with content-area teachers and support staff to ensure EL students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications to facilitate their success.
-Assessing EL students' language proficiency and academic progress regularly and using data to inform instructional planning and interventions.
-Establishing strong relationships with EL students and their families to foster a supportive learning environment and promote family engagement in their child's education.
-Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
- Valid teaching license/certification with TESOL or EL endorsement or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience working with English Learner students in a middle school setting (preferred).
- Knowledge of best practices in English Language Development (ELD) instruction and culturally responsive teaching.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers in every classroom. With the exception of designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) positions, the minimum qualification to apply for a teacher, librarian or counselor position is a Bachelor's Degree.
If you are hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in a Program to continue employment with the Department. Within each year of employment, you must satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements, as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is your responsibility to ensure the program you have enrolled is aligned with the teaching line you are hired in.
