The Town of Nags Head has an exciting opportunity for a Customer Service Representative to join our team! - Performs reception duties; answers telephone; greets visitors, citizens and customers; provides information; forwards calls and visitors to appropriate party; assists the public with the completion of records, applications, etc.; directs visitors to appropriate party
- First point of contact for customers via phone and walk in customers; assists contractors with business registration
- Handles inquiries/complaints from the public in person or by telephone; forwards calls to appropriate party
- Receives and processes daily cash for utility bills, taxes and other fees and charges
- Balances daily cash and processes remote bank deposit and physical bank deposit
- Enters payments into computer system; verifies accuracy of batch totals
- Enters journal entries for petty cash
- Maintains spreadsheets on various sale items including trash carts, dumpsters and flags; sales of beach driving permits, town license plates
- Maintains spreadsheets on various payroll items including flex plan and computer loans
- Enters a variety of data into computer; verifies statistical and other records for accuracy and completeness; enters and retrieves sensitive and restricted information into computer system
- Receives and processes incoming and outgoing mail
- Notifies various departments of items sold, deliveries needed, etc.; accept and direct deliveries made to the Town
- Performs related duties as required
- Three (3) – four (4) years of experience in billing and collections procedures and/or customer service
- Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in accounting or customer service related fields
- Proficient in the use of word processing and spreadsheet software
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Ability to deal effectively with the public in a tactful, courteous and effective manner including the ability to handle difficult or challenging customers
- Considerable knowledge of office technology and special software used in utility account management, tax collections and other services
- General knowledge of standard office practices, techniques, procedures and equipment
- Skill in data entry and mathematical computations with speed and accuracy
- Competency in computer operations and relevant software applications
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
