NATURE OF WORK:
The City of Brainerd's Parks and Recreation Department works year-round to offer various programs and activities as well as keeping the city's parks in great shape for the residents of Brainerd and the surrounding communities.
Event Planning and Coordination: Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of special events and adult sports programs. This could include tournaments, leagues, clinics, concessions, and other sports-related activities.
Marketing and Promotion: Assist in developing marketing strategies to promote special events and adult sports programs to the community. This might involve creating promotional materials, managing social media accounts, and coordinating outreach efforts.
Participant Registration and Communication: Help with participant registration for events and programs, including processing registrations, answering inquiries from participants, and providing information about schedules, rules, and other relevant details.
Volunteer Coordination: Assist in recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers to help with various aspects of special events and adult sports programs, such as event staffing, scorekeeping, and equipment management.
Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the special events and adult sports department, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, filing documents, handling concession deposits, and other office tasks as needed.
Learning and Development: Use the internship as an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event planning, program management, and community engagement within the context of adult sports and recreation.
Additional responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client interaction, vendor coordination, and creating event materials.
- Computer Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Flexibility: Be willing to work evenings and weekends as required by the scheduling of events and programs.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Previous experience in event planning, hospitality, customer service, or related fields preferred.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage event logistics, scheduling, and resources efficiently.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure thorough planning and execution of all event aspects.
Problem-Solving: Ability to think quickly and troubleshoot effectively in fast-paced event environments.
Customer Service Orientation: Customer-focused mindset to understand and meet client needs while delivering exceptional event experiences.
Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and manage unforeseen challenges during events.
Teamwork: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with vendors, staff, and volunteers in a team-oriented environment.
Salary is $19 per hour. This is an internship (temporary) position. Work schedule will vary, including days, evenings and weekends.

Pursuant to MN Statute, seasonal assignments are limited to 67 working days per calendar year or 100 working days per calendar year if the employees are under the age of 22, are full-time students enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired by the employer, and have indicated, either in an application for employment or by being enrolled at an educational institution for the next academic year or term, an intention to continue as students during or after their temporary employment.
