The Electric Design Supervisor is responsible for directing personnel in the Engineering Services design unit; preparing and/or approving technically and economically viable options for overhead and underground extensions and modifications to the electric utility distribution and transmission systems. They should possess the strong management skills required to drive and deliver an optimum and reliable service for the distribution system through collaboration between line operations, design & engineering. This leader is responsible for delivering reliable, safe service to customers within our service area while maintaining effective strategic relationships with the customer service organization, key community leaders, local elected officials, and key business customers ensuring business objectives. The supervisor will fully implement safety best practices and manage employee accountability. Supervisor must ensure full compliance with the Safety Program and Policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Serve as the primary contact for residential, commercial, and industrial developers to determine new or expanded service needs. Understand the application of and effective communication of the line extension policy related to the expansion of company facilities. Meet with various clients to review project scope and to ensure positive communication is maintained.
Based on customer needs and requirements, review and develop detailed engineering designs and plans and cost estimates consistent with good engineering practice, Georgetown Electric’s line extension policies, engineering and construction standards.
In coordination with operations stakeholders, develop sound engineering designs. Clearly identify all the required resources for the successful installation and inspection of electric distribution infrastructure.
Supervise electric project installation inspectors to ensure correct installation of civil and electric infrastructure.
In coordination with the Electric Engineering Manager and System Planning review the engineering specifications, assembly units and the cost estimation process on an ongoing basis.
Be responsible for the complete life cycle of the Joint Use Management/Pole Attachment process.
Monitor and track the work of engineering and design contractors to ensure accountability and accuracy, as well as make sure that specifications are being met and standards are being followed for both construction and safety.
Participate in the plat and site plan review process with the City
Build and maintain relationships with builders, developers, city personnel, and customers to proactively meet customer needs.
Resolve any company or customer issues concerning the extension of facilities, and proactively communicate concerns to management in an organized manner.
Effectively manage multiple projects concurrently.
Collaborate with Electric Operation Supervisors to develop/revise processes and procedures to create better communications among all departmental groups and to develop more efficient and cost-effective work practices.
Proactively prepare for emergency situations; support all efforts during emergencies.
Provide a forecast of work activity and estimated project completion dates.
Identify and monitor KPIs and trends in design workflow and project timelines
Be responsible for field checks and verification of design work
Work with the customer and city ROW group to obtain necessary easements and permits
Supervise employees, to accomplish results through recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.

MINIMUM FUNCTIONS:

Education, training and Experience

Bachelors or Associates Degree in a technical-related curriculum and five (5) years of direct or related experience in project management, construction, operations, engineering, or design while working in the electric utility field. One (1) year of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. Additional education can substitute for the required experience up to two (2) years. Equivalent professional experience of up to four (4) years can substitute for bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Five (5) to nine (9) years of direct or related experience in project management, construction, operations, engineering, or design preferred.

While a degree is preferred, some combination of coursework and experience, or else extensive related professional experience, is acceptable for consideration for a position

Knowledge of:

Basic electric system construction and design.
Demonstrated ability to uphold safety standards and participate in continuous improvement.
Experience leading cross-functional teams and/or supervision.
Ability to influence a team to handle and prioritize multiple task in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
Experience using business metrics to motivate and influence performance.
Extensive leadership skills including developing and conducting presentations to employees and management.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Utility industry experience, electric.
Applicable Georgetown Electric, APPA and OSHA safety regulations.

Skill in:

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to analyze, manage and generate various reports and summaries
(Demonstrated ability) Leading, supervising, and coordinating activities of diversified technical staff.

Reading blueprints, specifications, warning label, etc.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class C Texas driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Temperature extremes from weather and engines; Energized electric facilities; occasional dogs and insects

Hiring Range:$111,738.12 - $139,963.20, annually.
