Position anticipated opening date July 1, 2025. The City of Dunn is currently accepting applications for the poistion of Senior Center Manager for Parks & Recreation. An employee in this class coordinates and supervises the daily preparation and home delivery of lunch meals, and a variety of recreational, nutritional health and welfare programs. Work involves developing a budget including federal, state, county, and city funding, plus raising funds through fundraising projects. Work includes recruiting and supervising a large number of volunteers in the preparation and delivery of meals, and contract instructors leading activities. Work also includes developing center policies and procedures, planning jointly with other senior's agencies, and coordinating facilities maintenance with the city and Parks and Recreation staff. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and policies, and federal funding regulations. Independent judgement and discretion are exercised in the application and interpretation of programs and department rules and in handling supervision of volunteers. Employees are subject to hazards in recreation work including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather. Work is performed under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and is evaluated by review of records and reports, discussion, observation and accomplishments, and by appraisal of the general effectiveness of the program. Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of needs of senior citizens, covering health, welfare, and nutrition, programming and resources to address these needs and of food storage and preparation methods, and the laws governing sanitation and handling of food. Working knowledge of the principles, practices and policies of recreational programs and activities and of governmental budgeting processes and regulations. Knowledge of standard resources, materials, and facilities utilized in senior recreation programming. Ability to manage a senior center; to identify maintenance needs and coordinate repairs and general maintenance; to effectively plan, promote, organize and execute programs and services; to supervise the work of a large number of volunteers; to express ideas effectively in oral and written forms; to make presentations; to deal tactfully, courteously and firmly with the public; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior citizens, volunteers, community groups, peers, superiors and the general public.
- Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school and considerable experience in work with senior citizens programming, preferably including some budget, administrative and volunteer coordination, or an equivalent of training and experience. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Ability to successfully complete Senior Citizens manager certification by the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) Special Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, standing, pulling, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occassionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, to develop budgets, and to determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.
