Located in vibrant Downtown Visalia and adjacent to the full-service Marriott Hotel and Comfort Suites Inn, the Visalia Convention Center is considered one of the premier mid-state convention, meeting, and trade show destinations, with 114,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and arena seating. The Convention Center is owned and operated by the City of Visalia and can accommodate everything from a convention, conference, seminar or tradeshow to a concert, dance, or sporting event.

http://bit.ly/2ixIP6RTHE POSITIONThe position represents an outstanding career opportunity for a self-motivated, energetic manager to oversee and lead the Convention Center. In doing so, they will ensure an effective operation by managing and directing all operations, staff, concessionaires, and maintenance activities in order to maintain a high degree of guest satisfaction while providing a safe working environment for staff. The manager develops and implements marketing and sales strategies that will ensure targeted sales goals and growth are met. Furthermore, the manager is responsible for preparing, implementing, and administering the annual budget, fees and procurement for the Convention Center. Finally, this position has a key role in meeting the community needs and being the primary point of contact and engaging with marketing entities such as the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, and other downtown business organizations.
IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of event management, the ability to facilitate consistent sales growth and profitability, and will pride themselves on providing excellent service. It is critical that the new incumbent have outstanding communication skills and understand the need for creative solutions to operational, maintenance, technical, personnel, sales, and marketing needs. In addition, the ability to develop and maintain strong and effective professional relationships with businesses, citizens, employees, organizations, and other marketing entities will be critical to success in this position.
The ability to manage complex projects, identify and overcome obstacles, be a team player, take a global perspective, and make sound decisions are also essential. Equally important will be experience and abilities in conducting strong and effective community outreach and facilitating collaboration among diverse stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be someone who stays abreast of current trends in the industry, cutting edge technology, and is aware of realities of the marketplace. The selected candidate should be someone who is a dedicated professional, highly motivated, responsive, innovative, and will plan and implement a strategic vision for the future.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:
- Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in operation and management of a convention center or similar facility.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Business or Public Administration or related field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours, as needed.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
