We are currently seeking a motivated and community-focused individual to join our team as a Recreation Program Coordinator. This position plays a vital role in developing meaningful relationships with teens, families, and community partners while supporting inclusive and adaptive recreation programs.
The regular schedule for this role is Tuesday through Saturday, with afternoon and evening hours aligned with teen programming and weekend hours to support inclusion offerings along with weekend programming and events.
As a Recreation Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a diverse range of teen and adaptive recreation programs. These include teen music and art activities, social and leadership development opportunities, and programs that support individuals with disabilities through adaptive offerings and inclusion services.
You’ll work collaboratively across the department and with community partners to ensure programs are accessible, responsive to community needs, and aligned with Redmond Parks & Recreation’s mission: to create, maintain, and enhance sustainable, accessible experiences and spaces that foster belonging and promote well-being through recreation, parks and trails, arts, events, customer service, and facilities management.
This is an excellent full-time opportunity for someone with experience in recreation, youth services, or a social service setting who is passionate about creating inclusive spaces where all participants feel welcome and supported.
This is a full-time position requiring a flexible schedule, including evening and occasional weekend hours.
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop authentic relationships with teen participants to foster trust, build community, and encourage positive engagement using trauma-informed, youth-centered approaches.
- Plan, implement, and oversee teen programs including music, arts, leadership, drop-in activities, and social events.
- Coordinate and lead Camp Redmond summer day camp and other seasonal or contracted youth camps.
- Organize and lead adaptive recreation programs and inclusion services for individuals with disabilities participating in general recreation offerings.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for inclusion services.
- Work with families, caregivers, and instructors to assess needs and coordinate appropriate accommodations.
- Collaborate with community partners and contractors to create a variety of adaptive and inclusive offerings.
- Recruit and support contracted instructors and volunteers to ensure delivery of high-quality programs that meet City standards.
- Lead the teen leadership volunteer program, including application review, elections, scheduling, training, volunteer hour tracking, and planning of recognition events.
- Create promotional content including flyers, social media posts, and a monthly teen services calendar.
- Maintain a welcoming, safe, and organized environment across program spaces.
- Support department-wide special events and programming at the Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village and other locations.
- Apply best practices in use of SmartRec software for program scheduling, promotion, and data tracking.
- Consistently provide a high level of customer service to participants, families, community partners, volunteers, and colleagues.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Three years’ experience in program coordination and development,
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree or coursework preferred
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Licenses and Certificates
- Valid Washington State Driver's License
- Valid First Aid & CPR certifications (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
