The City of Battle Creek is looking for a Fleet Services Manager to plan, supervise and coordinate operations and activities of workers engaged in all aspects of vehicle, equipment, and facility maintenance and/or improvements; related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the DPW Director. Supervision is exercised over all personnel within the division.
Pay for this position is between $83,260 to $108,239 and is dependent on relevant experience.
- Coordinates and administers the operations related to fleet and building maintenance and inventory control activities. Plans and coordinates the activities necessary to fulfill the service, maintenance, repair, and storekeeping obligations of a centralized equipment maintenance facility and public service buildings.
- Supervises, trains, evaluates, and oversees the work of assigned employees and fosters a safe and efficient working environment.
- Plans short and long range work programs and related projects to support divisional maintenance and repair operations; collaborates with department leadership to develop long-term vehicle replacement programs and corresponding vendors.
- Oversees the preparation and maintenance of divisional payroll and cost records and various reports related to the expenditure of funds. Makes annual divisional budget recommendations. Plans, designs, and implements work procedures and methods for cost containment purposes.
- Handles citizen inquiries, comments, and complaints pertaining to equipment center divisional operations.
- Researches and stays current with Industry best practices and upcoming equipment and building technologies; prepares and presents correspondence and reports.
- Regularly utilize Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel) to generate reports and analyze productivity.
- Associates/Technical degree with coursework in a field directly related to assigned activities, or related field.
- 6 years experience with vehicle and equipment maintenance, including 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
Special Requirements:- Obtain DEQ Storm Water Operator Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Valid Class A Commercial driver’s license upon hire.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, bending, reaching, hand dexterity (grasping, holding, keyboarding, repetitive movements), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, using the telephone, contact with government officials and the general public, working overtime, and working inside and alone. Work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), working with explosives and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
