POSITION: Vice President of Economic Development
REPORT: This position reports to the President & CEO.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Nashville Downtown Partnership’s VP of Economic Development leads and oversees economic development programs and initiatives for downtown Nashville including business retention and recruitment, residential development, retail recruitment and market research. The VP of ECD develops and maintains relationships and public/private partnerships with constituents and stakeholders for positive long-term economic change while contributing to the vitality, sustainability, and positive activation of downtown Nashville.
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships/partnerships with key downtown stakeholders to include developers, commercial brokers, asset managers, residential real estate contacts, property and business owners, retailers, non-profits, institutions, agencies, industry, and others in downtown and across the United States
· Collaborate with various levels of local and regional economic development organizations and state and local government, while representing the specific and unique needs, challenges, and trends of downtown Nashville
· Work closely with Metro Government departments on downtown-centered projects and plans
· Oversee the recruitment and retention of businesses, conduct market research, encourage a strong local workforce, maintain a diverse mix of commercial and residential development, and facilitate a built environment that is accessible for all
· Maintain communication and share best practices with peer and aspirational cities across the nation, maintain benchmarks with key statistics; actively engage with industry-specific local and national organizations
· Speaking engagements/presentations on downtown growth/development
· Create and disseminate quarterly and annual reports on the state of downtown
· Attend public and private events as a face of downtown development
· Lead NDP’s Development Committee
· Staff lead on CBID/GBID expansion and new BID development
· Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
· Master’s Degree preferred; skills and experience may substitute if appropriate
· Minimum 12 years of professional experience
· Strong understanding of Downtown Nashville, the culture as well as locations of key projects
· Ability to communicate with a diverse external audience including developers, residents, retail operators and staff
· Ability to be a thoughtful and collaborative colleague
· Ability and desire to take initiative
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
· Strong computer skills
· Strong attention to detail
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position may require the ability to lift objects of at least 10 pounds in weight. Job duties require approximately 80% sitting/typing and 20% standing/walking. Physical requirements will vary depending upon the specific duties to be accomplished.
HOURS & LOCATION: This full-time position requires regular business hours as well as occasional nights/weekends for special events. Staff is currently operating with a hybrid model to include some work-from-home days/hours, with flexible scheduling.
COMPENSATION: The NDP offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package commensurate with experience.
