SALARY: $74,443.20 – $89,377.60 Annually ($35.79 – $42.97 Hourly), depending on qualifications
JOB TYPE: Regular, Full-Time
UNION STATUS: Non-rep

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call as needed)

The Role
As a Building Inspector - Fire Safety, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety, compliance, and quality construction in the City of Pasco. This position uniquely combines duties of a Fire Safety Inspector and a Building Inspector, conducting inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties for compliance with building, fire, mechanical, plumbing, and municipal codes.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of both building construction and fire/life safety codes, the ability to interpret and apply regulations, and strong communication skills to educate and collaborate with contractors, homeowners, and business operators.
You Will
- Conduct fire and life safety inspections of new and existing structures.
- Perform building inspections during construction and review plans for code compliance.
- Issue correction notices, stop-work orders, and ensure timely follow-up.
- Provide technical interpretation of codes to contractors, architects, and the public.
- Inspect specialized conditions such as fire alarm/sprinkler systems, fireworks stands, and large public events.
- Maintain detailed reports and assist with cases requiring legal action.

A background check, valid driver license, and pre-employment drug screen are required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least five (5) years of experience with both building and fire codes.
- At least four (4) years enforcing Fire and Life Safety Codes.
- Valid Washington State driver license.
- ICC Commercial Building Inspector certification (or ability to obtain prior to end of probationary period).
Preferred Qualifications
- ICC Fire Inspector I certification (must be obtained by end of 2nd year of employment).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Strong background in fire alarm/sprinkler system inspection.

Safety/Work Conditions
- Field and office work in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent climbing, kneeling, and moving around construction sites.
- Exposure to heavy equipment, traffic, air pollution, and chemicals.
- On-call rotation may be required; inspections may occur after hours, on weekends, or during large public events.
