Position Overview
The Seymour Fire Department is seeking an experienced, visionary, and community-focused
leader to serve as its next Fire Chief. The Fire Chief will oversee all operations of the
department, including emergency response, fire prevention, training, budget management, and
community risk reduction.
This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to city/county leadership, represent the department
in the community, and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and professional development
among personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and direction for the department.
Manage and oversee fire suppression, EMS, rescue, hazardous materials, and emergency
management operations.
Work with the Board of Directors to develop and administer the department’s annual
operating budget and long-term capital plan.
Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development of all staff.
Ensure compliance with NFPA, ISO, OSHA, and state/federal regulations.
Serve as Incident Commander during major emergencies.
Foster strong relationships with elected officials, community leaders, and mutual aid
partners.
Lead community risk reduction, fire prevention, and public education efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of progressively responsible fire service experience, with at least 2 years in a
command/leadership role.
An Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Administration,
or related field is preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Strong knowledge of fire/EMS operations, modern management practices, and
emergency management.
Completion of National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Incident Command
System levels: IS-100, IS-200, IS-300, IS-400, and IS-700
Must hold a current Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or higher license in the State
of Tennessee or be able to obtain reciprocity within 90 days of employment.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Must live within 15 driving miles of Seymour Fire Department Station 1 (101 Ford Hill
Lane, Seymour, TN 37865), or be willing to relocate within six months of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary base is $65,000, negotiable based on qualifications.
