The Orange County Emergency Services Department has an opening for a Emergency Management Coordinator-Planner. This position is responsible for technical work associated with emergency operations and disaster response planning. This includes, but is not limited to, the organization, implementation, and coordination of local pre and post disaster plans, goals, and objectives.
Work is performed under the direction of the Division Chief of Emergency Management with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in emergency management/Homeland Security AND one (1) year of work experience in the administration of public safety, emergency management, or business continuity operations AND demonstrated experience in leading, directing, and monitoring the work of others during both routine and emergency operations, OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree AND three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in the administration of public safety, emergency management, or business continuity operations AND demonstrated experience in leading, directing, and monitoring the work of others during both routine and emergency operations OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
Completion of FEMA Independent Study Courses IS 100, 200, 700 and 800
Completion of ICS 300 and 400 required within 12 months of hiring.
IAEM Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Certified Associate Emergency Manager preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a license valid in the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
Possession of or the ability to obtain IAEM Certified Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) within twelve (12) months of hire.
May be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Division Chief.
This position is on-call 24/7, and may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and in inclement weather conditions during incidents.
Participates in the Division of Emergency Management on-call program to ensure that ensures Orange County Emergency Services support is provided for major incidents on a 24/7 basis to respond to emergency calls, provides emergency coordination functions for Incident Commanders
