The
Department of Budget and Fiscal Services, Accounting Division, is looking to fill two (2)
Accountant II positions located in Honolulu at the Fasi Municipal Building. These roles involve performing professional accounting duties, including maintaining and evaluating financial data, reporting on departmental financial status, preparing account adjustments, and supporting budget development and expenditure control.
What You Will Do:- Maintain and update ledgers, journals, and records for operating, state, and federal funds.
- Classify and codetransactions and manage encumbrances, expenditures, and fund transfers.
- Review departmental financial status and prepare financial reports and statements.
- Coordinate with departments and agencies on federal program requirements and reporting.
- Project cash needs, monitor balances, and prepare required state/federal reports.
- Assist auditors with financial information and reconciliation.
- Support operating budget development using historical data and departmental requests.
- Recommend improvements to fiscal procedures and prepare related memoranda.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Career Progression:
Upon successful completion of probation and demonstration of satisfactory work performance and years of experience at each level, an Accountant II may progress to the independent Accountant III level.

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credits in accounting or auditing courses. Six of the 12 credits must be above the beginning or elementary course level and from an accredited four-year college or university.
Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with courses in accounting.
The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, proper documentation, e.g., a foreign credential evaluation (FCE), must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
One (1) year of experience in professional accounting.
Substitution: A Master's degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university will substitute for the one year of professional accounting experience.

Applicable Skills Needed:- Knowledge of accounting principles and governmental financial reporting standards.
- Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements and reports.
- Ability to produce complete and accurate financial reports and documents.
- Ability to analyze data, detect errors and correct inconsistencies in accounting records.
