The Civil Engineer performs engineering design, field investigations, plan review, design and construction contract administration, project management, and other engineering duties in order to maintain and improve all facets of city utility infrastructure. The position requires the application of specialized knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods, and techniques used in the profession, and operates under moderate supervision.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide respectful, professional, positive service in all interactions between co-workers, internal external customers, community members, and the public at large.
- Maintain a positive and productive environment ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the City, Department and Division.
- Design, review, and manage city water and wastewater utility infrastructure projects.
- Coordinates with Operations, GIS and Finance staff on recordkeeping of utility assets.
- Identify city utility infrastructure in need of maintenance and develop solutions to rehabilitate and maintain future infrastructure.
- Provide design contract administration for capital projects and provide project management for contracted utility projects.
- Coordinates with consultant(s) and/or internal Engineers for development and use of system hydraulic models.
- Provides engineering guidance for reviews of construction plans for utility improvements within private development projects and internal projects for compliance with standards and specifications.
- Provide technical engineering advice for any utility problems that need to be addressed by the city.
- Review concerns from residents regarding city utility infrastructure; assess infrastructure in the field, offer solutions, and coordinate with relevant departments to enact a solution.
- Monitor projects and report hazardous conditions and safety concerns.
- Suggest modifications to processes to enhance departmental performance as appropriate.
- Collaborate with peers internal and external to the Department as required.
