Perform routine and complex reviews and consultations associated with the preparation and approval of drainage analysis reports for land development. Review and determine the location of lot/structure with respect to floodplains.
Essential Functions:
- Perform specialized technical activities in support of engineering operations;
- Gather, compile and/or analyze data for engineering studies;
- Review drainage analysis of residential subdivisions.
- Review applications for permits; issue routine permits.
- Receives and reviews documentation prepared by consultants and engineers.
- Provide research and public assistance by providing engineering documents and support to all city departments, private engineering firms or other businesses;
- Perform a variety of office related functions including preparing permits, correspondence, maps and presentation materials.
- Assist with developing processes and procedures to improve the efficiency of the division.
- Respond to inquiries from contractors, developers, property owners, staff and the general public.
- Read maps and have previous GIS experience.
- Assist with departmental budget, as assigned.
- Use of Microsoft programs;
- Follow written and verbal instructions;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Completion of an Associate’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics or a related field and an additional two (2) years of general engineering experience with a knowledge of fundamental principles in engineering and preparation of construction documents and/or experience working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) activities; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- The fundamental principles of engineering, zoning, or planning;
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or Computer aided drafting software;
- Computer applications associated with typical office duties and engineering functions;
- Working knowledge of Word, Access, Excel, and Power Point;
- The principles and practices of engineering as required by the specific position.
Ability to:
- Read and interpret drawings;
- Communicate effectively with others;
- Perform drainage calculations.
- Work proficiently in Microsoft EXCEL.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds;
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
- Frequently walk, stand, bend and kneel during the shift;
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
- Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing;
- Place arms above, at and below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement.
