The City of Camas Community Development Department is hiring a Planning Intern to provide long-range planning support for the City’s Our Camas 2045 comprehensive plan update and the Our Downtown Camas 2045 subarea plan. Under the supervision of City staff, the Planning Intern will have the opportunity to work alongside City staff and private-sector consultants on tasks such as completing plan documents, drafting code updates, and supporting the adoption process. The position may also include involvement in current planning projects, providing well-rounded exposure to the planning field.
The Planning Intern may work part-time or full-time (20–40 hours per week), Monday through Friday, during standard business hours (8 a.m.–5 p.m.). The position is based at City Hall in downtown Camas, Washington, with the possibility of a hybrid work schedule. This temporary position will last up to six months, depending on workload and candidate availability.
- Draft and refine plan documents and policy recommendations
- Draft development code updates
- Conduct research and data analysis
- Attend public meetings, including advisory committees, Planning Commission, and City Council
- Participate in current planning projects
- High School/GED or equivalent
- Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from, an accredited college or university with at least two years of coursework in urban planning, environmental science, geography, public policy, or a related field
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
General Work Conditions:
Work is performed in both an office environment and the field, requiring the use of standard office equipment and occasional site visits. The position involves frequent computer work, collaboration with City staff and consultants, and occasional attendance at meetings or community events. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
