Who We're Looking For
The City of Beverly Hills Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Crime and Intelligence Analyst. The ideal candidate will be proficient in performing professional crime and intelligence related studies. The incumbent should have experience in producing, preparing, and presenting various types of reports to assist officers and administrative staff in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention, intervention, and suppression of criminal activities. The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used in crime analysis and have great attention to detail. They will also be self sufficient and well organized. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently with minimum direction but is also a team player. He or she will be resourceful and communicate effectively.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the journey-level specialized professional Analyst class assigned to the Police Department. Incumbents are expected to independently perform responsible and professional level crime analysis and research, exercise independent judgement in selecting study approach, analysis techniques, and making recommendations based on study results. Positions in specialized Analyst classes perform substantive and complex work in one or more functional areas that typically require specialized knowledge of the assigned department’s operations and a particular industry and/or field of study. Positions in specialized Analyst classes are responsible for exercising judgment, influence, and expertise to make decisions and recommendations as they relate to the department’s operations in areas which may include, but are not limited to: providing support in functional areas of operations and/or administration; program/operational analysis; project/program management; cost control, legislative analysis, contract administration, budget, space management/fixed asset control, etc. The Criminal Intelligence Analyst is distinguished from other specialized Analyst classes by its allocation to the Police Department, serving as a professional-level resource for a variety of crime and intelligence-related analyses and studies.

- Background Check
- The final step of the selection process requires a thorough police background investigation. The background investigation will include a comprehensive investigation of the candidate's background which includes, Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check, education and employment history (including a credit, criminal and DMV review), personal statement, employment and personal reference check.
Eligibility List
The candidates who successfully pass the selection process will earn placement on an Eligibility List. The Eligibility List may be used for current and future vacancies in the job classification, as defined by the duration of the list at the time the list is established. The Eligibility List established for any recruitment may also be used to fill a lower-level position.

Major Duties
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare predictive and descriptive reports of crime patterns, individuals, associations, flow, operations, and threats based on all available information.
- Identify crime patterns and trends and assists in creating directed patrol or tactical action plans for effective sworn response.
- Support Field Operations and Investigations in real-time and immediate response to critical and high priority incidents.
- Interact and communicate with police personnel on crime analysis/research issues; and respond to requests for various information reports.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new programs, procedures, methods, and systems.
- Apply conventional and computer-based modeling, logic, and hypothesis testing algorithms, and statistical analyses.
- Use federal, state, and local crime and intelligence databases to access and query data and information, generate reports, and validate or update information.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data and statistics using a variety of methodologies including, but not limited to, quantitative and qualitative.
- Plan, collect, and analyze open source information from the internet, while staying attentive to new social media sources and trends.
- Research, collect, and analyze data and information from a wide variety of resources such as crime reports, investigative reports, property records, financial records, DMV, personal records and data sources, web sites, published information, and other resources to develop patterns, links, and profiles.
- Communicate clearly and concisely in oral, written, and visual forms.
- Prepare a variety of written materials including charts, graphs, maps, reports, bulletins, and other informational materials for dissemination of information, to assist in criminal investigations, make intelligence estimates, or for training purposes.
- Coordinate with supervisors, detectives, investigators and staff from other agencies, and others to identify requirements for intelligence/crime analysis products; maintain liaison with other jurisdictions and agencies.
- Testify in court on work product, findings, and methodologies.
- Provide information to police leadership for decision-making purposes; present analysis and statistics in various internal and external forums; and participate and provide information to police personnel.
- Provide oral and written briefings to support the interpretation of crime and police activity information analysis in support of community relations and engagement strategies.
- Use geographical information systems to analyze and present information.
- Provide training to police personnel and other agencies and individuals on the use of various technology products to assist in the prevention, intervention, and suppression of criminal activities.
- Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, methods, and procedures.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
- Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
- Act as an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

Experience: 3 years of work experience as a Crime/Intelligence Analyst or similar position performing criminal intelligence analysis work in, or in direct support, a governmental law enforcement agency.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Administration, Social/Behavioral Science, or a related field.
License and Certificate Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license as required by the position.
