The Town of Truckee’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Program is excited to offer a paid internship opportunity for individuals interested in community engagement, public service, and equity-focused work. This internship is designed to enhance learning and growth while providing valuable hands-on experience. This position will contribute to planning and implementing community engagement and outreach activities with a variety of audiences, including workshops and community events such as Community Swim Night and the Día de los Niños celebration. The position will also support planning efforts including development of a Language Access Plan, Community Engagement Framework, and formation of a Youth Council. Spanish language skills are preferred to support the Town’s commitment to language access and inclusive community engagement. This is a part-time position, typically 20–25 hours per week. The schedule is flexible within the Town’s standard Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. workweek, with occasional evenings or weekends required for outreach and community events.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICSThis classification may be used for persons who have completed academic requirements and are working toward professional certification or registration, for persons for whom experience is a prerequisite for entrance to graduate school, or for persons who need work experience in a specific field to obtain a diploma or degree. Assignments help the Town achieve program and project objectives and provide the incumbent with on-the-job exposure in a professional or technical field of study related to the Town’s services, programs, and projects.

- Researches, analyzes, summarizes, and interprets information and data from various sources; checks data and analyses; prepares and assembles reports, manuals, articles, and other informational materials; may conduct presentations of findings and recommendations.
- Performs a variety of office and administrative tasks in support of Town departments including answering phones, sorting and distributing mail, filing, and photocopying.
- Maintains and updates record systems and databases; verifies accuracy of information; enters and updates department and project files; retrieves information and generates reports as required.
- Writes reports, letters, memoranda, and other documents.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:- Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and Town staff.
- The structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:- Equivalent to the completion of the tenth (10th) grade. No experience required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:None.
- Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; this is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required; occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information; ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 10 pounds.
- Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
- Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances.
- Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
