The Visitor Services Manager’s primary responsibilities are: to welcome visitors and provide the information and recommendations necessary to create a memorable visitor experience; to maintain the Johnson City Visitor Center; to provide assistance to groups and event planners throughout the process.
Detailed Duties:
- Greet, interact with, and direct guests visiting the center.
- Assist visitors in finding brochures, maps, and activities that will enhance their visitor experience.
- Keep all areas of the visitor center stocked, clean, and organized.
- Keep bathrooms prepared for visitors – ensures paper products and hand sanitation products are kept filled.
- Gain a working knowledge of the Johnson City area and tourism sites.
- May contact local hotels/motels to see if there are vacancies, upon request.
- Answer the phone and respond to questions or refer callers as appropriate.
- Assemble tourism fulfillment packets including Visitor Guides, Outdoor Guides, and Southern Dozen Guides.
- Process relocation/retirement information requests. Track & report as required by the Retire Tennessee program.
- Process electronic requests through Constant Contact and email.
- Maintain internal inventory of office supplies, kitchen supplies, promotional items, event needs, etc.
- Assemble welcome bags/packets for FAM tours, conference attendees, Southern Dozen visitors, etc.
- Assist groups with city permits, street closures, and things of the like to ensure a smooth process for both parties.
- Provide assistance to event planners regarding meeting sites, accommodations, and related activities to meet specific needs.
- Work with planners/organizers before and during the event to ensure success and capture repeat business.
- Sell retail items in the visitor center. This includes POS operations and reporting.
- Coordinate with the CVB team to support its strategic plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience working with the general public in customer service and/or retail related organizations. Knowledge of the local area and history. Must have good oratory skills and be comfortable speaking to the public.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and practical work experience related to customer service oriented positions.
Physical Requirements:
This work may require lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally. Work requires reaching, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and talking to convey important spoken instructions to others accurately; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and ability to receive detailed information through oral communications; visual acuity is required.
