Department of Facility Maintenance,
Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division, Traffic Electrical Maintenance Services Branch seeks a highly experienced professional electrical engineer to lead Citywide lighting systems operations. This position oversees five (5) sections responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of street, park, outdoor, and mall lighting on City property and ensures systems are safely designed, properly installed, and fully operational to meet City standards, while overseeing the availability of resources and materials supporting maintenance and repair activities. Play an important role in supporting public safety and community well-being, one light at a time.
What You Will Do- Oversee planning, studies, and analyses to improve street, park, outdoor and mall lighting, fire alarm and civil defense communications systems.
- Plan, coordinate and supervise Branch activities for installation, maintenance and repair of fire alarm, communication, photovoltaic and electric vehicle charging systems.
- Establish work procedures, direct work assignments, and oversee preparation of progress and cost reports.
- Review plans and specifications for lighting systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and City requirements.
Special Work Requirements- Must operate a vehicle.
- Subject to being on call 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays, to respond to emergencies.
- May be exposed to high voltage, electrical hazards, and active traffic conditions
- May work beyond normal hours, including weekends, to meet operational deadlines
- Serves as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies (e.g. tsunami, thunderstorms, hurricanes)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:Three years of registered professional electrical engineering experience, including or supplemented by one year in supervising or being responsible for an engineering operation or function.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:- Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), as required.
- Current State of Hawaii registration as a professional Electrical Engineer.
NOTE: Applicants with a current out-of-state license in Electrical Engineering must obtain their Hawaii license prior to appointment.
