The Department of Community Services, Community Assistance Divisionis seeking a community-centered Housing Assistance Specialist I! This full-time, permanent role, located in Honolulu, involves learning and applying basic rules, methods, and work processes used in the Section 8 Housing Assistance Programs.
What You Will Do- Process housing applications by evaluating income documentation, verifying financial data, and determining eligibility for Federal Section 8 programs.
- Conduct educational briefings for tenants and landlords to explain program regulations, housing quality standards, and participant responsibilities.
- Facilitate housing placements by reviewing rental agreements, coordinating unit inspections, and initiating rental assistance payments.
Manage ongoing caseloads through annual reexaminations and adjusting payment levels based on changes in family income or circumstances.
Maintain program compliance by documenting case files, mediating landlord-tenant disputes, and performing fraud investigations.
Perform other related duties as needed.
Special Working Conditions
- Work schedule is Monday - Friday from 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

1. Four (4) years of professional work experience, in any occupation, may substitute for a general bachelor's degree.
2. Four (4) years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in case management/social services/eligibility work or relatedmay substitute for a general bachelor's degree.
