The Position
The purpose of this classification is for delivering prepared classes, individual units of extended courses, and skill sessions. The instructor is competent as an instructor and knowledgeable in the topic(s) being instructed. The instructor is required to successfully complete an initial 6 month probationary period. The instructor position is a 40 hr. non-exempt position.
Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Prepare for delivering class or skills session so that all equipment, materials, and information are available as required in the lesson plan.
Deliver classroom or skills training so that learning objectives are achieved, fire service personnel are actively and positively engaged in the learning process, and instructional/audiovisual equipment is used appropriately.
Conduct a safety survey of equipment, training areas, and classrooms so that all hazards to students and instructors are identified and corrected.
Complete all Albany Fire Department forms applicable to training session so that all required information is properly recorded and forms are submitted to the appropriate staff in a timely manner.
Conduct skills evaluation using a State of Georgia skill sheet so that the fire service personnel's performance is evaluated objectively using the skill sheet, feedback provided to the fire service personnel, and the skill sheet is correctly completed.
May have to administer a written evaluation instrument so that the fire service personnel follow all instructions and the instrument is administered as intended.
Apply all Albany Fire Department policies and procedures so that the policies are achieved and procedures are followed by fire service personnel during instructional times.
The instructor will report to the Training Chief.
Attends meetings and functions as necessary
Participates in Fire Department related community activities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Perform other related duties as required.
Requires any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Associate's Degree Preferred. Must have the ability to use computers, to include Microsoft Office Software. Must be a Certified State of Georgia Firefighter, and must be Certified as NPQ Fire Instructor I. Must have knowledge of city and state codes and ordinances, knowledge of relevant fire service standards and regulations and knowledge of relevant state and federal laws and regulations. Must have a Valid Georgia Driver's License
