The purpose of this job is to perform intermediate clerical work assisting in the procurement of a variety of municipal supplies, materials and equipment. This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
- Answers telephones; provides assistance, requested documents and information; refers callers to other staff members as appropriate; and takes messages.
- Greets and directs visitors, as and when appropriate; resolves routine administrative problems and answers inquiries concerning activities.
- Performs a variety of clerical tasks in support of department functions, including but not limited to establishing and maintaining files and maintaining computer record-keeping functions.
- Assist customers and other department employees by responding to questions.
- Sorts, screens, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail; drafts or prepares responses to routine inquiries; prepares photocopies and facsimiles.
- Receiving of Central Warehouse stock and materials.
- Issues or delivers warehouse stocked items to various departments.
- Checks prices and processes stock orders.
- Updating and verifying stock receiving reports.
- Performs daily maintenance check on warehouse equipment.
- Assists in the preparation, opening, and awarding of bids.
- Performs related work as required.
General knowledge of modern storeroom and inventory practices; ability to count and inspect a variety of stores and materials accurately and thoroughly; ability to maintain computer records; ability to drive light automotive equipment including a forklift; ability to get along well with others; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent and one (1) year of basic clerical or office support, customer service, warehouse inventory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
