The purpose of this job is to assist the Parks and Recreation Department in planning, organizing, and conducting various center programs and activities. This position works under general supervision.
These positions are seasonal from April to September, up to 40 hours, and require working a varied schedule to include days, evenings, and weekends. Must be available between 6:00 am and 7:00 pm Monday through Friday.
- Serves as a summer camp counselor (Athletics, Traditional, and Outdoors)
- Assists in the overall planning, organizing, and conducting of various recreation activities including youth programs, after-school programs, summer camp, special events, and others as needed
- Supervise young children ages 6-17 and handle stressful situations
- Effectively plan and execute a daily lesson plan of structured activities
- Initiates and organizes new activities as needed
- Assists in the preparation of publicity materials and in publicizing events
- Prepares reports of center utilization
- Locks and unlocks center as needed
- Performs related work as required.
- General knowledge of the athletic and recreation interests of children and adults, occupational hazards of the work and application of necessary safety precautions, and the principles, practices, and techniques of recreation administration. Knowledgeable of First Aid, AED, and CPR procedures. Ability to work in a group setting; plan organize, supervise and evaluate various activities; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Valid state driver’s license. First aid, CPR, and AED techniques (preferred not required)
