This part-time, seasonal role will fulfill duties for Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department communications and marketing team from spring through fall.
The role will work with the Marketing & Outreach Manager to assist with graphic design, social media posting, general organization and project management, website updates and data entry, event support and on-site photography / videography, special projects, and production of printed flyers and posters.

Pay Grade: $21.00 - $23.00
Hourly Remote Tier 2: Up to one (1) day remote/week.
- Conduct work with professionalism and compassion for everyone encountered.
- Contribute to effective relationships with third-party vendors, organizations, cultural and community organizations, and City personnel.
- Ability to work on evenings and weekends occasionally.
- Use creative skills to create graphics using Canva to create social media posts, flyers and other graphics.
- Photograph events and programs as needed.
- Organize and manage image assets.
- Copy edit and write with strong attention to detail.
- Work under short deadlines and under pressure. Creatively problem-solve when required.
- Regular attendance and check-ins with supervisors (in-person and/or virtual).
- Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures.
- Monitor and follow city-wide safety policy and practices and adhere to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, and report any unsafe activities and conditions.
- Position may require the operation of City vehicles and/or personal vehicles in order to conduct City business.
- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree requirement on a two-for-one year basis. College degree in a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated professional experience in communications, media and content creation, writing, marketing, public relations, or related field required.
- Experience using Canva to design graphics for social media posting and printed materials required.
- Experience composing and scheduling social media posts required.
- Experience managing a professional social media account preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Ability to communicate effectively to both public and staff.
- Ability to work well with others and individually.
- A willingness to learn new things and flexibility to carry out various communications related tasks as assigned.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends at large public events.
- Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid driver's license to Human Resources will not be permitted. A valid driver’s license shall be defined as a current state of residence-issued license to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways. Position also requires the ability to be covered under the City’s vehicle insurance policy prior to operation of any City vehicles or non-City vehicles for City business
