Dougherty County Public Library has a vacancy for a Full-time Library Assistant. Employees in this position are responsible for staffing the Circulation desk and performing other duties that contribute to the efficient operation of the library.The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Process all library circulation transactions such as checking out and checking in library materials; placing holds requests; providing assistance with locating materials to meet customer need; resolving library card issues;Register new library usersAssist patrons with use of library computers and softwareDemonstrate the use of library electronic resources such as downloadable audio books and e-booksAssist and inform patrons on the use of library digital reference databasesAnswer the telephone; provides information and assistance; collects fines and fees; obtains books and materials from other libraries to fill patron requests.Ensure equipment used by the public is in good working order; demonstrates proper use of such equipment; performs routine maintenance, e.g. loading paper and changing toner cartridges.Sort returning materials and re-shelve in designated collection areas.Notify patrons of overdue or reserved library materials;Process new materials by affixing labels, stamps, and applying protective covering to make ready for checkout.Package materials to fill request from other PINES librariesStrive to resolve patron problems and concerns relating to late fees or unreturned materials.Check in magazines, newspapers and other mail, routing it to the appropriate locations.Assist with special eventsAssist with library displaysOther duties assigned as requiredApplicants must have a high school diploma or GED, and additional education or at least 1 year of work experience.
