- This vacancy is only open to 1) current permanent Parks employees serving in the Administrative Park & Recreation Manager civil service title or 2) on leave from the title.
Major Responsibilities
- Under the executive or general direction of Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs of Recreation, with varying degrees of latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, provide innovative leadership in improving assigned Recreation Centers, outdoor programs and events.
- Supervise Recreation and other assigned staff.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the Kids in Motion, Summer Sports Experience, Movies under the Stars, Arts and Cultural and other programs in a borough. Help schedule, provide support and identify alternative sites for associated programs.
- Engage in fundraising for special projects.
- Aggressively pursue the proper development and execution of outdoor events and programming in a designated locale.
- Manage complex borough resources providing assistance and wise allocations across all districts and Centers. Discuss needs and schedules with Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs to coordinate efforts effectively.
- Provide Borough Chiefs with weekly status reports on events and programming status at Recreation Centers and surrounding parkland.
- Attend community board meetings and respond to the needs of community organizations, partnership groups and public officials.
- Track area programs and activities using Xplor.
- Manage and direct complex jobs and projects that require prompt attention and resolution.
- Coordinate and develop volunteer projects in Centers under their purview.

ADMINISTRATIVE PARKS & RECREA - 1007D
Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership, gardening, grounds maintenance, building maintenance or construction, of which 18 months must have been in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
- High school graduation or its educational equivalent plus six years of experience as described in "1" above; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described in "1" above.
License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required within six months of the date of appointment.
Preferred Skills
- Five years’ experience implementing recreational programming. 2. Experience working with people with disabilities. 3. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills. 4. Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment. 5. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access. 6. Ability to initiate and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. 7. Valid New York State driver license.
