About the Role
The City of Grandview is seeking an experienced, innovative, and community-focused Police Chief to lead its Police Department. The Police Chief will oversee a team of 3 Division Commanders, 9 Sergeants, 45 Police Officers, and 9 Communications staff, ensuring the highest standards of emergency response, safety, and operational excellence. A full-time administrative assistant supports the Police Department.
Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management: Direct all Police Department operations, including strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management.
- Emergency Services: Lead officers in the delivery of community-based police service, assume command during crisis situations and emergencies, and respond to major crimes.
- Community Engagement: Build and foster strong relationships with the community, city officials, and regional partners to promote law enforcement and public education.
- Policy Development: Create and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to maintain a highly skilled and responsive department.
- Budget Oversight: Manage the department’s $8.3M budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource allocation.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, maintaining a safe and effective work environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or a related field (Master’s degree and/or Executive Law Enforcement training preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, with at least five years of command experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires Missouri State Police Officer Class A Certification and possession of a valid Missouri driver’s license.
- Ability to exercise judgement, decisiveness, and creativity required in critical and/or unexpected situations.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, budget management, and personnel leadership.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to community engagement.
- Knowledge of modern policing techniques, firearms and non-lethal weapons systems, law enforcement management methods, and training.
- Ability to complete the Missouri Police Chief POST-certified training course within six months of hire.

Pay range and compensation package
Salary Range: $124,696 - $168,334 commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and 13 paid holidays. 100% city-funded L6 LAGERS pension plan PLUS 3% matching supplemental retirement. Provided a take-home fleet vehicle. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
