
Economic Development Intern – City of Saint Paul (Planning & Economic Development)
Looking to gain hands-on experience while making a real impact in your community? The City of Saint Paul’s Department of Planning and Economic Development is hiring an Economic Development Intern to support initiatives that strengthen local businesses and commercial corridors. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced staff, to contribute to projects that directly support local businesses and neighborhoods, and help shape a growing, community-focused program.
Internship Details:
This is a full-time summer internship with the potential to extend into the school year. You’ll receive mentorship, real-world experience, and the opportunity to contribute to work that directly supports Saint Paul’s economic vitality.
Here’s what you can expect to do:
- Support a high-impact program by helping implement and grow the Saint Paul Commercial Corridors Program that serves local businesses and neighborhoods
- Create tools and tell the story by developing content, templates, and reports that highlight program outcomes and community impact
- Engage with the community through business outreach, research, and participation in meetings and roundtables
- Analyze and evaluate programs by preparing case studies and assessing what’s working—and where improvements can be made
- Collaborate across teams to support projects, improve internal processes, and keep initiatives moving forward

- Completion of at least one semester of undergraduate or graduate coursework in public policy, planning, urban studies, geography, public administration, applied economics, political science, business administration, housing studies, architecture, or a related field
- Must maintain active student status throughout the duration of the internship

Temporary: This posting is open to anyone who meets the internship requirements. This position is eligible for Earned Safe and Sick Time (ESST). Other benefits are not provided.
