The Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA) is one of the largest prosecutor’s offices in the country and is committed to developing and implementing innovative prosecutorial strategies that will fulfill our vision of keeping Brooklyn safe while at the same time ensuring fairness and justice for all. KCDA has an exciting opportunity to work as a Paralegal in its Gun Violence Suppression ("GVSB") Bureau.
Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the prospective candidate will perform the following duties:
- Be the KCDA liaison for the Gun Violence Suppression Partnership and perform various tasks, including attending daily meetings, creating packets of gun subjects, and providing information about KCDA cases during the meeting.
- Prepare investigations and cases (felonies and misdemeanors) for trial and grand jury presentations.
- Perform research, document retrieval, and other data collections as well as keeping files in update status.
- Gather necessary data for case presentation and record accurately within a specified timeframe.
- Order and retrieve police reports, court minutes, grand jury minutes, medical and other records and documents from appropriate agencies.
- Organize and maintain cases files and case action sheets.
- Utilize the office Case Management system to locate, monitor, or status cases.
- Locate and notify witnesses for hearings/trial/grand jury presentation.
- Prepare subpoenas, orders to produce, material witnesses' orders, special witness orders and other legal papers as needed.
- Deliver and retrieve files from other locations.
- Review Court Calendars
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
- Requirement:
Candidate Must pass Federal background check.

- Strong attention to detail is required.
- Ability to utilize discretion and maintain confidentiality on casework is essential.
- Applicants must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and proficiency in MS products (Excel; Pivot Tables; Charts: Functions etc.).
- Effectively utilizes the office case management system.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, and work both independently and within a team environment.
- Willingness to learn many systems and programs.
- Additional Information
- Candidates must meet the additional requirements:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or;
- An associate degree and two to four years of full-time satisfactory work experience in the performance of paralegal (legal assistant) services; or
- Paralegal Certification from a program approved by the American Bar Association.
- Must clear federal background check.
Candidate will work mainly in Manhattan Office.
