Assistant Deputy Director-Parks and Grounds The Assistant Deputy
Director is responsible for the daily management of the functions of the
of the Central Maintenance Grounds Division including, but not limited
to, the scheduling of staff and contractors, mowing, turf maintenance,
irrigation maintenance, ornamental and shrub pruning, planting and
seeding, and snow removal operations for the City\'s parks, playgrounds,
athletic fields, and any other open space such as Park and Elm Street
Commons, as well as City owned buildings and schools, and the
coordination, setup, and takedown of various special events held
throughout the year. Work is reviewed by the Director and Deputy
Director for overall program effectiveness through observation, written
and oral reports, external technical reviews conducted by regulatory
Agencies Or Technical Consultants, And Conferences Qualifications
Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduate
of a two year college with an Associate\'s degree with five (5) years
related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education,
Training And Experience Which Provides The Required Knowledge, Skills
and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Special
Requirements: Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Drivers License. CDL Class B
desired. Knowledge, Abilities and Skill Knowledge: Working knowledge of
City government; thorough knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and
tools related to construction, maintenance repair of public works,
parks, grounds, buildings and other City-owned facilities and
relationship with other City departments and state agencies; working
knowledge of personnel practices and procedures and purchasing
techniques; working knowledge of governmental budgetary procedures.
Abilities: Ability to communicate work assignments and supervise
subordinates; ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in
writing; and the ability to effectively carry out brief general
instructions of a superior in a safe, timely, and effective manner.
Skills: Skilled in cost estimating for budget purposes; skilled in
public relations and supervision of employees. Proficient written and
