Individuals in this classification use skilled laboratory work in collecting samples, analyzing chemical and biological components using sophisticated testing equipment, recording and reporting findings as well as the operation of wastewater treatment plant equipment and facilities on an assigned shift. Serves as the lead person in the lab in addition to being responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant and for performing other tasks related to the treatment of wastewater. Work also includes developing and implementing program guidelines in the lab, and training other employees in lab procedures. Work is performed within prescribed procedures and regulations, but the employees must be able to exercise independent judgment in correcting certain problem situations.
