The Prince George’s County Councilis currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Budget Assistant 1G, Grade 13 position in the County Council Office of Finance.About the Position
This is entry level paraprofessional type work designed to relieve the accounting, administrative, and clerical workload of the Office Manager and Sr. Finance Assistant. Under general supervision, incumbent performs varied and responsible bookkeeping and accounting work often of a technical nature and difficulty. Incumbent typically determines appropriate steps to complete assignments with direction and independence according to established procedures, referring to the Sr. Finance Assistant, when necessary.
About the Agency
All legislative powers of the County are vested in the County Council. In addition, the County Council sits as the District Council on zoning and land use matters, and as the Board of Health on health policy matters.- Maintains extensive knowledge of all County purchasing procedures, contracts and accounting principles. Acts as County purchase cardholder for Council Members.
- Researches automated and manual file of accounts using the County financial automated system, ensures all forms and data are entered and updated in a timely manner.
- Researches vendors to meet purchase specifications and consults with Council Members/staff to obtain approval for purchase and make recommendations, if necessary.
- Purchases supplies for Council District Offices.
- Monitors purchases to ensure timely delivery and inspects deliveries for damage and proper assembly.
- Maintains and organizes supply inventory in a manner allowing staff and Council Members easy access.
Assists Office Manager and Senior Finance Assistant by typing sensitive and confidential correspondence and various budgetary and financial forms. Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of office files, correspondence, and budgetary reports.
Maintains expert knowledge of English, spelling and modern office practices.
Maintains the confidentiality of all County Council Finance Office matters and materials.
Maintains extensive knowledge of Council and general government procedures, operations and functions.
Responds to general inquiries and referrals from callers and visitors.
Assists with the preparation of a monthly financial report for each Council Member.
Willingly and cooperatively performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:
High School Diploma or G.E.D., plus 30 semester credit hours from an accredited College or University towards an Associate’s Degree with course work in Accounting and Financial Management.
One (1) year of experience providing paraprofessional support to an accounting or budget office performing budgetary or financial recordkeeping.
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
