What’s The Job?
Working as the Public Information Officer, you can expect to develop and manage strategic communication initiatives that strengthen communication between the Town and the community, employees, media, and other stakeholders. You'll create and distribute public information, promotional materials, press releases, newsletters, flyers, surveys, and digital content while managing and maintaining the Town's website and coordinating communication efforts across departments. In this role, you'll serve as a key liaison between the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, Town departments, the public, news media, and community partners, including Collierville High School television programs. You'll review and develop content, conduct interviews, attend meetings and community events, and organize public groups to support effective communication and outreach. Additional responsibilities include coordinating publications and production schedules, preparing reports and correspondence, maintaining official documentation, responding to public inquiries, operating a variety of digital, audio-visual, and office equipment, maintaining confidentiality, and staying current on applicable laws, regulations, communication practices, and industry trends. The position also requires attending Board of Mayor and Aldermen meetings and other relevant meetings or events outside of regular business hours as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Here is what you need to be considered for the position of Public Information Officer:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Administration or a closely related field
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible work in the field of Communications, Journalism or a closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Ability to attend meetings outside of regular business hours. Must be proficient with social media applications and a variety of software and graphic design programs.
- Valid Driver’s License
