Reporting directly to a Sergeant, responsible for the enforcement of state laws; preservation of public order; protection of life; and the prevention, detection, and investigation of crime under the jurisdiction of Williamson County.
Patrol
- Provides service, information, and aid to citizens as circumstances require
- Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances
- Investigates criminal offenses and detains, restrains, and makes arrests, when necessary
- Works with and addresses community groups to foster good relations with the public
- Responds to emergency calls and non-emergency complaints
- Enforces traffic laws and investigates vehicle collisions
- Recovers lost or stolen property
- Attempts to locate missing persons
- Patrols property by means of vehicle or on foot
- Specializes in the enforcement of specific Texas Codes, as required
- Testifies as a witness in civil and criminal court proceedings, when necessary
- May serve court processes, collect evidence, and guard or transport inmates
- Maintains knowledge of technical and operating principals, practices, and problems of law enforcement and crime prevention activities
- Maintains general knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Texas Transportation Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, Family Code, Texas Education Code, Health and Safety Code, Agriculture Code of Texas, etc, with specific knowledge of code directly related to unit for which the deputy is assigned
- Possesses knowledge of the use and care of vehicles, firearms and specialized equipment
- Maintains level of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties of a peace officer
- Maintains Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing requirements such as firearms qualifications, continued education, etc.
- Performs special duties as assigned
Crisis Intervention (in addition to patrol duties)
- Responds to local hospitals and agencies to assess and assist with Emotionally Disturbed Persons (EDP)
- Serves Orders of Protective Custody (OPC) and writs to mental health facilities
Detective
- Monitors caseload, as well as completes and maintains detailed supplement reports for assigned cases
- Reviews offense reports and witness statements
- Collects, processes, and submits evidence obtained during the process of investigation
- Interviews victims, suspects, and witnesses
- Drafts search and arrest warrants, grand jury subpoenas, and other legal documents as needed
- Confers with prosecutorial staff and supervisors concerning details of current caseload
- Maintains knowledge of Texas Penal Code, Texas Transportation Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, Family Code, Livestock Laws of Texas, Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code
- Maintains knowledge of technical and operating principles, practices and problems of law enforcement and crime prevention activities
- Maintains knowledge of departmental rules and regulations, state, federal, local laws and county resolutions
- Maintains knowledge of use and care of vehicles, firearms and specialized equipment
- Maintains knowledge of basic interview and interrogation techniques
- Maintains Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing requirements such as firearms qualifications, continued education, etc.
- Performs special duties as assigned
Overdose Investigation Team Detective
- Performs general tasks and functions of Detective assignment, as listed above
- Works collaboratively with State and local partners assigned to the Fentanyl Overdose/Poisoning task force
- Initiates and/or conducts investigations for suspected Fentanyl overdose/poisoning cases
- Performs static, mobile and electronic surveillance
- Cultivates and manages confidential informants
- Conducts investigations from information gained from informants, tips, leads and intelligence
Juvenile
- Maintains public access security for the Juvenile Justice Center; maintains safety and security in the juvenile facility
- Assists with Bailiff duties as requested
- Serves as school resource officer on campus as requested
- Assists with internal investigations involving youth on youth or youth on staff assault or destruction or theft of county property
- Conducts background checks and serve warrants as requested
- Assist with receiving, booking, and securing juveniles, if requested
- Oversees and maintains area of assigned responsibility
- Conducts daily physical inspections and searches of the facilities, inmates, and visitors
- Supervises juvenile activities (i.e., recreation, visitation, meals, etc.)
- Posts, maintains, and enforces facility rules as well as state, federal, and departmental policies, and procedures
- Observes juveniles to detect, deter, and /or prevent self-destructive or criminal behaviors
- Assists with transport of juveniles
Livestock
- Enforces all applicable laws with particular emphasis on the Livestock Laws of the State of Texas
- Provides service, information, and aid to all citizens as circumstances require
- Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances
- Investigates criminal offenses; arrests offenders
- Performs enforcement duties for the protection, safety, and welfare of citizens and property under the jurisdiction of the County
- Handles and hauls livestock, including but not limited to riding a horse, riding ATVs, repairing fencing, lifting heavy objects, roping livestock, administering medication to livestock

- Position involves safely operating a motor vehicle and mobile radio equipment under normal and emergency conditions without any equipment modifications specific to any individual operator

- Position involves physically subduing and restraining aggressive violators
- Position involves discharging a firearm with either hand

- All: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Crisis Intervention: Two (2) years of experience as a Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy in the Law Enforcement Bureau with exposure to Emotionally Disturbed Persons (EDP) incidents
- Detective: Two (2) years of experience as a Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy in the Law Enforcement Bureau
- Livestock: Prior experience in the identification, banding, and hauling of all types of livestock and other animals
