About This Position
The Custodian for the Police Department performs custodial work for the care and maintenance of the Police Department buildings and grounds, which is defined as the Public Safety Center, PD South, PD Training Center, and Animal Services Facility. They generally perform in accordance with established procedures, but specific instructions may be given on unusual jobs or problems.
The Custodian’s work is subject to inspection by a supervisor for compliance with standards of cleanliness and instructions.
Responsibilities
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies in restrooms, break rooms, common areas, among other areas
- Clean the Public Safety Center basement areas (and ramp) by sweeping, tidying, and emptying trash bins
- Empty trash receptacles
- Clean and maintain floors by vacuuming, sweeping, popping, and stripping/waxing as needed
- Sweep driveway and sidewalks
- Manage and replenish custodial supplies
- Dust shades and surfaces
- Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs and touching up paint
- Learn the safe and effective usage of cleaning chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides
- Complete other projects as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
- 7 to 11 months of related experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Necessary Skills
- Ability to learn the operation and care for all janitorial equipment
- Active listening skills
- Ability to retain information and understand/follow oral and written instructions
- Time management skills to undertake responsibilities with initiative and good judgment
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process (including a polygraph) and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
