JOB REQUIREMENTS: The position of Police Commander is an executive
management role requiring a high degree of leadership ability,
resource-management skills, and knowledge of contemporary best practices
in policing. The Green Bay Police Department has approximately 230

Minimum Qualifications Required: Sworn police professional with at least
five years of progressively responsible experience in a management role
in the Green Bay Police Department or a police agency of similar or
larger size and complexity. Valid driver\'s license and excellent
driving record. A combination of equivalent experience and/or education
may be considered. Must have acceptable personal and professional
history as determined by successfully completing a background
investigation. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Considerable knowledge of
the principles, methods, and practices of municipal police
administration, organization and operation. Knowledge of methods and
practices of criminal and internal investigation and identification.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and
court decisions relating to unit operations and personnel practices.
Working knowledge of departmental rules and regulations. Working
knowledge of police labor relations. Considerable skill in the
application of modern law enforcement principles and practices through
planning organizing, assigning, directing and reviewing the work of
subordinate staff. Ability to apply department policy to a wide variety
of situations. Ability utilize a computer and the required software.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and
the public. Ability to work the required hours of the position. May be
required to demonstrate minimum competency by successfully passing
approved tests. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to perform the following
activities: Lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds. Occasionally lifting
and carrying in excess of 75 pounds with assistance. Must be able to
hear and have correctable vision. Frequent standing, walking, sitting,
stooping and running. Ability to run, grapple to help physically contr l
another person, climb, reach, apply leverage from unusual positions.
Ability to enter cramped and difficult to enter spaces, with low
visibility and unknown dangers. Ability to tolerate exposure to cold,
heat, noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions. Ability to climb
stairs and work at heights above 10 feet. Ability to drive an emergency
