Qualifications And Requirements
Experience, Education, and Training
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of Associate Degree, preference given for Criminal Justice
Requirements
- Must possess a valid Vehicle Operator's License upon establishing Missouri residency.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, a United State citizen.
- Eight year's or more of police experience.
- No felony convictions.
- State of Missouri POST Certification

Essential Functions
I. Supervisory Activities
- Participates in a panel of ranking officers in the selection interview process assuring that the most qualified persons are selected and assuring for compliance with applicable laws and rules.
- Provides direct and indirect supervision for subordinate officers, acts as a role model and provides feedback regarding performance.
- Provides formalized coaching and judging of subordinate officers assuring for professionalism, impartiality, accurate documentation and timeliness.
- Recommends promotions, provides recognition, and recommends disciplinary action as needed, assuring for professionalism, impartiality, accurate documentation and timeliness.
- Assists with ensuring the necessary training on specific police processes and activities is provided.
- Deals with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Responds to requests by immediate supervisor in an accurate, complete and timely manner.
- Allows and requires subordinates to perform their jobs with appropriate levels of supervision.
- Supervision and scheduling of reception staff at the front desk.
- Investigating complaints on officers and acting as internal affairs for the department.
II. Budget Related Activities
- Receives and makes recommendations for the departmental budget. Analyzes and considers all recommendations. Assists in the prioritizing of all recommendations assuring for a comprehensive and complete budget.
III. Planning Activities
- Assists with determining and setting goals, objectives and projections for future developments assuring that the department is progressive and in step with trends.
- Attends external meetings, seminars and programs to maintain an awareness of the trends and developments of the law enforcement industry.
- Attends internal meetings with departmental and other staff persons to obtain input and to encourage ongoing communications.
IV. School Liaison Activities
- General supervision of the SRO program and School Resource Officers.
- Acts as a liaison between the police department and the public school system of students, teachers, administrators and parents advising and communicating on matters of crime prevention and the maintenance of a safe learning environment assuring for professionalism and positive public relations.
- Coordinates with SRO’s and assists with local programs including Active Shooter Training for the school district assuring exceptional role modeling and professionalism.
- Public Relations
- Makes public relations presentations, responds to citizens' questions or inquiries and speaks to citizen's groups assuring that the police department and the City is represented and presents a positive public image at all times.
- Attends and participates in extracurricular activities in the community assuring high visibility and professionalism in the community.
- Speaks with media and gives press briefings when necessary.
- Attend City Council meetings during the absence of the Police Chief.
VI. Routine Police Duties
- Assists with patrol activities as needed, including report writing, assuring for safety, positive public image and professionalism.
- Assists as needed with physical deterrent activities assuring for safety, departmental policy compliance and other applicable laws and rules.
- Assists with community policing activities as needed, providing compliance with all departmental and outside agency laws and regulations.
- Maintains an awareness of safety issues assuring for compliance with all safety procedures.
VII. Computer and building maintenance and upkeep.
- Assists in setting up and day to day upkeep of computer used by the Police Department as an administrator and reporting issues to COF I.T. Department.
- Maintaining the Livescan machine as a site administrator.
- Assists in checking for maintenance issues on the Police Department property and reporting issues to building and grounds for repair.
