JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Parks and Recreation administers the Parks and Recreation Department and is responsible for coordinating with Purchasing and Engineering to design, construct, maintain and operate of the City of Conroe Parks and Recreation facilities. Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of various recreation and aquatics programs for the community. Develops and monitors the annual and capital improvement budgets as well as oversees personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or related field. Ten (10) years' experience in municipal or private parks and recreation in a supervisory capacity; experience as a Director/Chief Executive of Parks and Recreation preferred.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid class "C" Texas driver's license. Preferred possession of Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) designation
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of City budgeting procedures and policies; ability to determine the costs of providing programs and facilities to the public and ability to monitor expenditures and revenues.
- Knowledge of and experience in parks and recreation planning and design methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of and experience in writing and administering grant applications.
- Knowledge of and experience in general City-wide beautification projects.
- Knowledge of and experience in grounds and building maintenance.
- Knowledge of recreation program planning, implementation and evaluation methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of plans and specifications for parks and recreation related projects.
- Ability to lead personnel, supervise the hiring, training, evaluating, promoting, retaining, disciplining and/or discharging of employees.
- Ability to negotiate with architects and other vendors.
- Ability to write and communicate.
- Ability to write specifications for maintenance of parks and recreation facilities.
- Ability to work with community organizations on parks and recreation projects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
