Under general supervision performs technical work associated with maintaining local and wide area networks, providing assistance to users regarding hardware/software issues, and maintaining existing computer resources. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Information Technology Systems Supervisor.
Starting Salary: $21.12/hourTroubleshoots problems involving computer hardware, local area network (LAN) hardware, and wide area network (WAN) hardware; monitors server and backup system to identify potential problems; troubleshoots printing problems; responds to after-hours calls as needed.
Provides Help Desk functions to users; provides information and technical assistance to users regarding computer operations, procedures, problems, software functions, upgrades, and other related issues.
Sets up and configures new computer hardware; installs, upgrades, and configures software on computers.
Assists in the management and maintenance of citywide surveillance solution; including configuration, installation, and review of camera equipment.
Participate in the planning of the web site, meeting with stakeholders to discuss ideas for the layout and organization of the site, the types of images to use, and other matters concerning the overall graphic design. Determine requirements and/or enhancements for site including e-commerce capability, forms, and specialized scripts. Post site to internet using Content Management application. Collect the text documents and images that will appear on the page and convert them into a form in which they can be viewed with a web browser. Create and edit images and graphics.
Assists in the review and research of hardware and software additions, improvements, and updates.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in computer related field with an emphasis in computer science, network administration, and personal computer operations; and
Three to five years’ experience and/or training involving computer operations/maintenance, network system administration, and hardware/software installation; or
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Operates various computer systems, peripheral equipment, and job related tools, such as a personal computer, laptop computer, printer, monitor, terminal, server, modem, scanner, network adapter, printer sharing devices, volt ohmmeter, diagnostic instruments, or connector crimpers; enters commands into computer system to clear errors, start operations, correct errors, operate peripheral equipment, and perform related functions; enters, retrieves, reviews or modifies data in computer programs or operating systems; tests equipment; identifies data errors, line failures, and equipment malfunctions; initiates appropriate action to correct errors, recover data, and obtain maintenance; performs general/preventive maintenance tasks; performs data backups onto tape, disk, or other media.
Monitors working conditions of equipment; performs computer maintenance tasks, such as loading paper into printers, clearing paper jams, or replacing printer ribbons and toner cartridges; performs preventive maintenance and cleaning of equipment as needed.
Maintains a working knowledge of a variety of computer operating systems and software programs, which may include word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, networking, communications, utilities, diagnostic, or other programs.
Maintains logs/documentation of system operations, modifications, maintenance, and other activities.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, technical function summary reports, diagrams, drawings, training materials, brochures, handouts, system documentation, or other documents.
Receives various forms, reports, and correspondence, help requests, technical handbooks, program documentation, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, system users, vendors, sales representatives, contractors, city officials, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Maintains an awareness of new technology, products, trends, and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
Assists supervisor in conducting research for planning purposes.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
