The City of Geneva is seeking a dynamic and hands-on Superintendent to oversee our Streets and Fleet Divisions. Under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works, this candidate will be responsible for planning and directing operations such as street and sidewalk maintenance and repair, snow and ice control, tree trimming, planting and removal, leaf and brush collection, alley maintenance, public and commuter parking lot maintenance, streetscape maintenance, cemetery mainteancne and operations, fleet and repair operations and the City's fuel management system.
The ideal candidate will supervise division personnel actions including; hiring, training, development, discipline and labor relations. In consultation with the director, this position develops the annual budget, goals and objectives for their divisions.
Duties
- Develop annual budget, goals and objectives for the Streets and Fleet Divisions.
- Manage programs, projects and services to ensure compliance and satisfactory completion.
- Supervise division personnel functions: labor relations, interviewing, training, performance management, discipline, etc.
- Coordinate, supervise and participate in emergency response operations.
- Supervise annual snow removal operations.
- Respond to complaints and inquiries from residents, property owners and others.
- Investigate job-related accidents or injuries; analyze and make recommendations regarding corrective measures such as PPE, SOPs, etc.
- Coordinate monthly safety committee meeting and facilitate trainings.
- Prepare and administer outside service contracts related to public works and appropriate divisions.
- Review and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, including the State Fire Marshall for underground fuel storage requirements and permitting, and parking garage elevator conveyance certificates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in business, engineering, project management, construction or similar field
- Five + years' supervising construction crews with an emphasis on streets, grounds and fleet.
- Prior experience managing collective bargainning agreements and labor relations.
- Strong knowledge of construction management principles and practices.
- Experience with contract management and understanding of contractual obligations is preferred.
Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position that works Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is responsible for coordination and, when necessary, participation in after hours response efforts for signifcant weather events and snow and ice operations. Occassionally, they may be required to attend planned after-hours events, such as City Council meetings, as necessary.
Pay and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $102,000 - $142,800, with an anticipated starting pay of up to $112,000.
