About This Position
The Parks and Recreation Department offers residents and visitors 187 city parks, 33 community and recreation centers, classes, and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities. Along with more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails.
The Parks Supervisor position directs and prioritizes the work of supervisory level staff who provide care and maintenance of parks, landscaping, special facilities, community centers, sports fields, turf management, and public grounds across the city. The position oversees and coordinates with other division and department personnel regarding major maintenance projects and recreation activities and participates in the development and management of budgets, capital improvement projects, equipment procurement, ensures compliance with multiple agency regulations governing land, water, and air issues, and conducts inspection and evaluation of work performed. Duties include labor management relations, including coordination with unions and upholding regulations under negotiated memoranda of understanding.
There is currently one vacancy in the Downtown Division. The Downtown Division Parks Supervisor acts as the section head and is responsible for the operations of 3 maintenance yards, supervision of 2 Foreman II's, 4 Foreman I's, skilled trades workers, full and part-time front-line field staff. Additionally, general park maintenance for 19 parks and a variety of specialty areas with unique amenities and maintenance responsibilities for large special events.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the department; excellent oral, written, presentation, and listening skills will be essential.
- Ability to build a strong and positive working environment for team members in their section and across the organization and community.
- Possess analytical skills to effectively use data to make decisions and relay information.
- Manage new and or improvement projects withing facilities and parks.
- Effectively monitor and adhere to operating agreements for city facilities and parks.
SALARY
Pay Range: $ 78,540.80 - $110,510.40 annually.
Hiring Range: $ 78,540.80 - $95,451.20 annually.

Minimum Qualifications
- Five years of supervisory experience in parks maintenance;
- Including three years of experience as a second-line supervisor (or three years of supervisory experience in parks maintenance work at the level of Parks Foreman II).
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications

- A bachelor's degree in park and recreation management, horticulture, construction management, or related field.
- Experience in operating budget oversite.
- Experience in general park maintenance practices.
- Experience in irrigation systems.
- Experience in athletic field & turf maintenance.
- Experience in building and/or facility maintenance.
- Experience in procurement & contract management.
- Experience in Capital Improvement Projects.
- Experience in staff training & development.
- Experience in community engagement.
- Experience in operating agreement management.
- Experience working with elected officials, boards or commissions.
- Experience in labor relations.
- Playground Inspector Certification, Pesticides Applicators License, Certified Arborist/Sustainable Landscape Mgmt. Cert.
