Civil Engineer III – Street Preservation

The City of Olathe is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer III to join our team to work in a project manager capacity for the Street Preservation program. This role offers hands-on experience in public sector engineering and the opportunity to build a strong foundation in municipal infrastructure while working alongside experienced professionals.
The City of Olathe manages, maintains, and repairs over 1,300 lane miles of street pavement, including associated curbs and sidewalks. To maintain a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) of at least 70, we prioritize projects annually. Our pavement preservation strategies include crack sealing, microsurfacing, mill and overlay, and complete reconstruction. Funding for these projects comes from the Capital Improvement Plan, street maintenance sales tax, and additional funding sources such as grants.
As a Civil Engineer III, you will be part of a dynamic team, working on vital infrastructure projects that support the city's long-term goals. This position is the second step in a four-level career progression from Civil Engineer III to IV, providing opportunities for growth and development. If you have at least four years of engineering and project management experience, or relevant experience through an internship with a municipality or engineering firm where you gained practical knowledge in civil engineering, or a related field, we want to hear from you! Applicants must have their Professional Engineers (PE) license, or ability to obtain the license within six months of employment. Applicants who do not have a PE license are encourage to apply for the Civil Engineer II position through the City of Olathe website.
