Under supervision, this position is responsible for performing moderately complex work related to the Glass Recycling Program Initiatives. These initiatives align with the priorities of the Board of County Commissioners and support the County's sustainability plans. The Sustainability Coordinator will collaborate with the sustainability team to define issues, develop project plans, collect and analyze data, formulate recommendations, and communicate findings. The coordinator is responsible for developing and executing educational outreach campaigns, fostering community partnerships, and driving participation in the program. This professional role also requires strict compliance with all relevant County, State, and Federal codes and regulations related to the assigned tasks.

- Designs, implements, and manages a comprehensive grant funded glass recycling outreach program that aligns with the County’s sustainability plans.
- Builds partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses to promote the program and increase public participation in glass recycling efforts.
- Creates educational materials, lead workshops, and organize events to raise awareness about the environmental and economic benefits of glass recycling.
- Works with local governments, waste management agencies, and environmental groups to ensure efficient and effective recycling practices are followed.
- Tracks and analyzes data related to glass recycling participation rates, diversion from landfills, and overall program success. Provide regular reports to County leadership.
- Ensures that all glass recycling initiatives comply with relevant County, State, and Federal regulations.
- Works closely with the County’s Communication staff to develop content for social media, newsletters, and press releases to promote glass recycling efforts and highlight program achievements.
- Identifies opportunities for program growth, such as expanding to new areas or incorporating additional recycling streams.
- Performs duties as assigned/necessary that are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
Education: A Bachelor’s Begree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Human Services, Education, Communication, Planning, Public Administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in government, business, consulting, nonprofit, and/or academic sectors, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Miscellaneous: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Interpersonal, leadership, planning, and communications skills; ability to communicate professionally verbally, in writing, and in presentations.
- Knowledge of current models and programs for urban sustainability, including federal and state policies and measurement/monitoring of sustainability.
- Knowledge of climate change science, principles of energy and environmental management, social behavior change, and economic development.
- Ability to manage projects and coordinate with other administrative offices.
- Relevant knowledge and experience with project management software.
- Ability to present and promote sustainability programs to the public through various means of marketing and promotional activities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in decision making and all phases of responsibilities.
- Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files.
- Ability to access, operate, and maintain various software applications.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
- Ability to establish and maintain a professional effective working relationship with other departments and to interact with all levels of employees, elected Officials, appointed Officials, Staff, and the general public.
