Iredell County is pleased to partner with NC Community Colleges Apprenticeship and offer an Apprenticeship Job Opportunity as an Equipment Operator with the Solid Waste Department. Upon successful completion of this program, the Apprentice will receive Commercial Driver’s License. REQUIREMENTS:
No experience is required.
Must be able to pass Criminal Background check.
Must pass Pre-employment drug test.

SALARY:
Starting Salary: $18.15 per hour
All class time is paid work time.
All training time is paid work time.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship Program, you will be qualified to perform the duties as a credentialed CDL Equipment Operator. The duties of the position are:
· Operates heavy roll off truck or transfer trucks to transport solid waste to the landfill or to recycling market vendors; insures loads are properly secured and covered.
· Operates front end loader to load materials into trucks or to push garbage into containers; operates backhoe or other equipment to compact solid waste materials in containers and bins.
· Operates loader to spread gravel on roads and parking areas.
· Instructs truck drivers where to dump waste; observes waste being dumped at the landfill for proper materials; separates out materials not allowed.
· Inspects assigned equipment for proper operation and safety; performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs and adjustments to heavy equipment; assists the mechanic when needed.
· Maintains simple records of work activities.
· Performs and records random waste screenings.
· Mows grass as needed; participates in landscape and facility maintenance at solid waste facilities; participates in snow removal.
· Assists with cleaning up around transfer stations and collection sites.
