This position is responsible for supporting the strategic communications and marketing activities, services, and campaigns for the Town. Candidates should be able to exhibit the ability to speak, write and develop clear content and concise materials including strategic social media content, and interact with and engage the community. All initiatives implemented must be exercised within established policies and procedures. The position will report to the Director of Communications & Marketing and may require additional working hours, including holidays, evenings, and weekends.An employee in this class is responsible for communicating Town programs and information, in addition to monitoring media and general public relations for all Town departments. The position is also responsible for assisting departments with various internal and external communication needs and special projects in both print and digital formats. Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Communications & Marketing and includes tasks involving a high degree of responsibility, discretion and confidentiality.Develops and implements communication campaigns to promote programs and activities of all Town departments.
Develops, monitors, and maintains traditional and digital media content on Town platforms including but not limited to newsletters, social media, websites, and Microsoft SharePoint.
Utilizes Adobe Creative Suite for graphic design and photography/videography editing.
Coordinates, executes, and documents community events, programs, and activities as assigned, including maintaining event calendars.
Under the guidance of the Communications & Marketing Director, ensures that outputs align with Town branding standards and Guidelines throughout projects with a high attention to detail to promote a positive, professional image of the Town.
Assists in growing and maintaining various social media sites.
Assists Director of Communications and Marketing with internal and external communications as well as special projects.
Seeks out new avenues to better serve all Town departments in engaging employees and citizens.
Attends in-person events and trainings as assigned.
Serves as liaison to community and special interest groups.
Performs related duties, as requested.
Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, or a related field from an accredited college or university and two to five years of professional experience in communications, journalism or marketing; or any equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience in local government a plus.
Special Requirement
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
