The Recreation Assistant III with the City of Salina plays a vital role in fostering community spirit by facilitating engaging activities for all age groups. The work is dynamic, involving the organization of exciting special events, interactive youth programs, & supportive initiatives for seniors & individuals with special needs. The position demands robust leadership & communication skills to ensure that everyone enjoys a vibrant & inclusive recreational environment.
On-the-Job Training: Enriching hands-on training will be led by seasoned staff who are dedicated to new employees’ success. Our expert staff will provide guidance in real-world scenarios, honing skills in event planning, safety procedures, & community engagement. Through job shadowing & instructional insights, our next new Recreation Assistant III will learn skills to expediate successful & rewarding activities & programs.
Duties:
· Assists in the planning, organizing, coordinating, instructing & supervising year-round activities for youth & adults, including instructional programs, special events, therapeutic recreation, senior programs, trips, & leisure programs; may instruct & lead activities as needed.
· Provides leadership & guidance to all participants through programs & activities.
· May supervise volunteers as needed in absence of the Recreation Supervisor; supervises participants & activities at all times.
· Organizes supplies & needed equipment, set-up & clean-up events & activities.
· Supervises volunteers; assists in leading other workers in absence of the Recreation Supervisor.
· Administers basic first aid as needed.
· Responds in emergency situations within scope of training.
· Serves as driver for Senior Programming.
· Performs basic clerical & administrative duties which may include data entry, record keeping, preparing & processing various documents, maintaining files & daily event logs, & registering program participants.
Education:
· High school diploma or G.E.D.
· CPR & First Aid certifications required.
Experience:
· Previous work with special needs persons is desired.
· Excellent communication, organization & supervisory skills.
Requirements:
· Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
· Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
Work Type: Light, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Machines, Tools & Equipment: Calculator, computer software, computers, fax machines, printers, scanners, tablets, telephone, two-way radio, & vehicle.
Hours:
· Works varied schedule as needed.
· Year-round position.
Pay: $13.37-15.37/hr. DOQ EOE
